Last Thurs I went for GTT at the government maternity clinic. Funny, the nurses actually didn't know that my glucose level was high during my checkup on 16 Apr 09. The reading written on my ANC book was 7.6mmo/L... like i know what it means.. And after that, I went back for regular checkup twice yet nothing was mentioned and my glucose level was normal during my checkup with my gynae.
A week ago the clinic called to inform me that due to the reading on 16 Apr 09, I'll have to go thru GTT to confirm if I've got glucose tolerance problem... zzzz.... ok.. it's government clinic, it's free.. no harm testing..
Apparently the normal reading should be around 5-6 or slightly higher if food was just taken. So 7.6 is considered higher than it should.
Procedure: Fast the day before from 12 midnite onwards.. no food no drink not even plain water. At 8am, the clinic took sample of my blood then gave me a concentrated glucose drink.. yuck! Then waited for 2 hours.. and took my blood again.
When I asked for the result, I was being informed that it will only be out on my next checkup... hmmmm.... i was thinking... I'll be delivering soon then.. what's the impact??!
