So Embarrassing

Last weekend Eethan said he wanted to go shopping. That's very unusual coz usually he would either want to go swimming or fish feeding in the Sultan Garden. So off we went to City Square after his afternoon nap.

There this shoes shop that's really cheap. Eethan brought shoes for me to try on, a dark purple 3"high open toe stiletto in particular. It was lovely but how often do I get to wear? So I told him to put it back, which he did while I went on trying other shoes. Then he brought me the same shoe again, put it back and brought it again - couple of times. I got the shoe I wanted and he brought the purple shoe to me again when I was waiting for the cashier. So I gave it a try. Eethan was happy and said it was nice!

He went off and brought 2 other shoes for me to try. When he came back I had taken off that purple shoe. He dropped the 2 shoes he had on the floor and just stare at the ground, motionless. I thought he was angry and explained to him why I can't have that purple shoe. He shook his head. I asked again if he was angry, he just shook his head. Then it dawn to me. Oh No, SHIT..!!! I mean literally... SHIT... he was Shitting!!!

Eethan has passed motion that morning. I didn't expect him to shit again.. worst still, he didn't have his diaper on and he refused to move coz there's shit in his ass. Then... the shit dropped out!!!!!!!!! So embarassing.. I had to pick it up, clean the floor and him as well on the spot with people looking at me. OMG.. For that 1 moment I wished he had diaper.. screw the toilet training!

Toilet Training

I first tried to toilet train Eethan sometime in Dec last year coz I wasn't working for at least 3 weeks then and thought it a good time. But it wasn't successful as it needed all his caretaker to be in sync and Eethan can't really express himself then.

On 10 Apr 2011, Eethan was 21mth. I tried again. There were a couple of accidents that day, 2 I think. But then he succeeded in telling me he needed to pee!! I was so excited that I even took a photo of it.. haha! I then told his baby sitter that he can do it and he will tell. Kids, when they are too engrossed with something, they'll forget. So we'll need to ask them from time to time, if they needed to use the washroom. And I insisted on not letting him wear diaper whenever he is at home.

Just the next day after I told the baby sitter about Eethan's toilet training, she asked me for diaper, saying her supply was finishing soon..zzzz... I wonder which part of our conversation she didn't understand. I reiterated again and told her if she were to use, please only when he is taking his nap. Well, I don't have much confident in her. I doubt she'll follow.

But my Eethan now do not need diaper during his nap!! I've even brought him out a couple of times without having diaper on. I've monitored his pattern, we'll just need to ask and encourage him every 2 hrs to be safe. Nite diaper is still on though... I don't wanna clean mattress.

Settle down himself

Eethan has also been very difficult recently, insist on doing things his way n would say NO on purpose to defy orders. Just 2 hours ago he did it again. I scolded him n he kept crying n screaming n asking me to carry but I ignored him. After a few mins I asked him if he was sorry, he didn't answer. I told him to say sorry n he kept quite but just kept clinging onto me. I stood up n back away n told him I wasn't happy with his behaviour.

He started screaming n crying n asking me to carry again. I ignored him. After awhile I told him to settle down first. I won't carry unless he settle down. He really started to settle down! But was swallowing hard. So I ask him to breath. He did n within 1 min he stop crying n was looking longingly at me. After that everything was smooth - change diaper n go to bed!

Don't know if it works everytime but it's worth a try. Can't spoil him right.. But my heart was really aching seeing him cry like that.

Counting

Eethan surprised me this morning when he said 12345!

I've sang him numbers song before n showed him numbers books but haven't really asked him to count with me. Maybe my in laws did. I was taking his clothes when he told me there's stars on the plastic. So I asked him how many stars and he recited.... 1,2,3,4,5..! I was sook happy that I just kept clapping my hands:)

Later in the evening I realised he can actually recite 1-10..! Just imagine how surprised I was. Then suddenly I realised he has grown so much. He's not a little baby anymore.

Testing His Boundary

Eethan is really giving me headache.. He not only defies orders, he'll repeat his action on purpose just to see our reaction!

Recently he likes to eat direct from his bowl without spoon and refer to himself as "wou, wou" - Hansel..!! Difference is - Hansel eats with the bowl on a surface. My dear baby eats with his bowl brought up to his mouth. So you guess what happened to all the rice??! I gave him a sharp NO and hit his hand. For a moment, everything was quiet. Nobody moves, not even Eethan. Then this little baby actually look at his father and slowly put his feet on the dinner table.. and smiled!!!

I controlled my laughter, gave him a stern look and put his leg down, telling him NO again. But up went the leg again. Then this whole round of leg up, leg down happened until he threw his tantrum and I told him I was angry with him and ignored him.

I've taught Eethan before to kiss me if he is sorry coz he doesn't know how to say sorry yet. So he kept wanting come over to my seat and kiss me and wanted me to carry/hug him. I didn't want it to be too easy for him. I wanted him to remember the incident and that it is a wrong behavior. But... rescue came..

How his brain works

I showed Eethan which is his right hand and which is left then got him to show me when I asked. He got it right! Then I asked him to show me his right and left leg without showing it to him - guess what?? he got it!!! Same goes for ears and eyes..! You can never imagine how surprised I was and it is really amazing how this little brain could put the puzzles together.

We will usually correct Eethan when he pronounce "bus" coz his "s" is always missing and that if there's more than 1 bus = buses. There's this one day I think 2 weeks ago when Eujin jokingly pointed to the cats in the alley and told him 1 cat = cat. Many cat = cat, cat, cat, cat... A day or two later when we were on the road, Eethan pointed to the cars and said car, car, car, car, car... pointed to buses and said ba, ba, ba, ba... When the grandma corrected him, he still insisted on saying it his way with a mischievous smile.

Kids... they pick up very fast!

Milestones... his or mine?

Quite a number of things happened recently, especially these 2 weeks.

First, we found out that Eethan likes to eat sausages! We were pretty surprised coz most of the stuff  we gave ie fruit juices, yogurt, ice cream.. he doesn't like. On 26 Dec 2010, while going to Lovie's place we decided to grab some food first and let him try it out. Ended up he didn't wanna give it back and keep holding on to the stick. We then bought yogurt and let him try.. Guess what?! He's loving it! That's freshly made yogurt that cost around SGD 3. The one I gave him before was RM 1, bought from Giant... We were thinking if it does make that much of a difference.. hmmm....

When we were in Penang, WE were so excited to watch him play in the sand.. He has never done it before. To our disappointment, he didn't even wanna let any sand particle touch him. The first time he walk in sand, he immediately asked to be carried and said his feet "eek, eek" = dirty..! And refused to be put back down again. Goodness.. he actually cried when I coax and forcefully tried to put him on the sand. Sooo timid!

Eethan can say more words now and can link 2 words together!.. He'll say "good nite, mummy".. but pause a bit in the middle and "baby chair". His favorite?? - "Bra, Nen Nen"... hahahahaaaa..!!!! means - take off bra please, I wanna drink milk...!
