Leukocyte ++

Another bad news for my pregnancy when I went for my checkup last Sat, 25 Apr 09. My gynae suspected I have bladder inflammation and true enough, the reading for leukocyte during my urine test showed ++...... with a slight presence of blood.

**Leukocytes are white cells and these are usually seen in the urine as a response to an infection. Other findings that might suggest infection are blood in the urine or protein. Leukocytes may be present in the urine as a result of vaginal infection or bladder inflammation. Urinary infection is common in pregnancy as a result of the effects of the pregnancy hormones relaxin and progesterone. Both of these cause relaxation of the smooth muscle in the urinary tract so that the tract dilates. This effect makes infection much more common than usual.
Relaxin is good in the sense that its function is to relax the joints in the pelvis so the baby has room to pass through the birth canal. Unfortunately, relaxin also causes abnormal motion in many other joints of the body, causing inflammation and pain**

I've gotta take antibiotic via intravenous (IV).... not pills.... every morning for as short as 3 days if it clears or not 7 days if its a bad case. On the 3rd day, my reading still showed +.. I was really sad and the thought of getting the IV put me off. Every morning my gynae will have to find new, unpoked vein. I begin to count if I've got 7 visible veins to poke besides the back of my palm... coz that area hurts the most.

Luckily the reading cleared by the 4th day and my gynae said I didn't have to visit him until my next scheduled checkup. Then, he explained to me that the effect of not treating this will be a preterm labor. Thank GOD it cleared! But I've gotta be careful and drink alot of water coz it might come back again..

.

4 IV antibiotic marks and 1 mark left behind by the IV drip during my hospitalization.
